  • Portobelo Fortress is a colonial Fortress of the Spanish period, founded in 1597 as a Caribbean port for peruvian silver. It was one of the ports on the route of the Spanish treasure fleets. Portobelo Fortress is situated in Portobelo fishermen village in the province of Colon. The road from Portobelo to Palenque and Miramar passes through numerous rural villages and pristine beaches of genuine beauty. In the same area, not far from Portobelo, is situated the the famous Isla Grande.
